Whodat in da Hoodoos?

After our short adventure at the Great Basin National Park, we made our way to Bryce Canyon.  We arrived there in time to see the sunset.  We would stay here 2 nights and were glad to have some extra time this year to explore the lodge and surrounding.  After our hike tomorrow, we planned have time to drive the 18 miles scenic drive with lots of overlooks of the canyon, and check out the visitors center, etc.  🙂

The canyon is a spectacular sight!  Such Read more

Loaded up and Headed South

Loaded up and Headed South

Our time in Washington had come to an end.  We loaded up the poor little Sonata to the gills and left Shannon & Cam’s house in Spokane Valley.  Unfortunately, we had to head backwards over 300 miles to Western Washington for a rescheduled appointment rather than just heading south.  After our extended stay in St. Lucia due to hurricane Maria, our plans for our drive home were all discomboobilated.  We had appointments that had to be rescheduled, and hotel reservations that had to be cancelled.  We had planned to drive south to California and spend some time at Yosemite National Park.  Then to Death Valley National Park, over to Las Vegas, then to Bryce Canyon, Moab, and Mesa Verde.  Early Fall is high season for Moab, and we didn’t want to lose our reservations there, so we just cut out the first week of our trip, and drove fast to get back on schedule. A wedding, a honeymoon, and two hurricanes!

A wedding, a honeymoon, and two hurricanes!

The highlight of our summer, was the wedding of our youngest daughter, Shannon, to her longtime sweetheart Cameron.  The event was Saturday evening, September 9, in Spokane Washington.  The entire week prior we sat glued to the weather channel, watching hurricane Irma.  It was headed for Florida.  Holy *#@&! We finally decided that Kenny better fly to Sarasota to secure things as best he could and fly back in time for the wedding.  He flew out of Seattle on Wednesday.  And we kept watching the weather.  We’ve never prepared for a hurricane before!  He bought all kinds of ropes for the boat, and discussed  with our lifelong Sarasota resident and friend Wayne, how Island Girl should be secured.  He striped all of the canvas off of her, and cleaned everything out of her.  At home, he boxed up everything that he could get off the floor in case of flooding, and piled it up on the kitchen counters in plastic tote boxes.  He took the hard-drives out of the computers, gathered up all kinds of important documents like insurance papers, vehicle titles, etc., and he grabbed jewelry and my mom’s Bible for me – all to bring back to Washington with him.  He put a bunch of paperwork in the dishwasher to stay put and stay dry.  The hurricane was forecasted to hit our area on Sunday night.  Read more
