Spending the 2nd night at:  Pines Trails Campground in Robber’s Cave State Park near Wilburton Oklahoma
Weather- clear & sunny. Hi 80, low 58, Humidity Hi 68%, low 29% A warm beautiful day!!

Around noon, before it got too hot, we took Kawi for a spin. But first, we changed out the windshield to the short one so we could get some air-flow. The full glass windshield is nice when the weather is cooler or if there’s some rain in the forecast, but we knew today would be too toasty for that. We set out to see what the trails were like, thinking we wouldn’t be gone long. This made me laugh… At he beginning of the rocky trail, there was the “Tent Camping” sign. Apparently you have to trek all of your stuff in by foot to tent camp here!!

$28.40/night for Site 19 on the passenger side at the top of a hill including 30 & 50 amp power and water. Long and wide, but have to back up a gravel hill and make a 90 degree turn in-between goal post trees to get in! UGH! We’re staying two nights and there are offroad trails here in the campground. Site 20 would have been WAAAY easier to get into! Darn. You just can’t see the trees and elevation changes on maps to know these things in advance.

Tuesday:  460 miles traveled today.  Elevation tonight is 1995’ in Elk City, Oklahoma.

We dropped about 5000’ in elevation today!  Ah — it feels good to breathe and not feel out of breath!  😁👍 Maybe we’ll sleep better tonight!   We left Taos at about 8:30, and took a scenic highway through the mountains to make our way down to I-40.  It was really beautiful!  Here is our route:
