10/18-21/2022 Disneyworld, then HOME!!

When I was planning this trip across the country, I was also thinking about when we could go to Disney. We purchased annual passes in November 2021 when our oldest granddaughter came to visist, and we haven’t used them since. They’ll expire in November, so I was thinking that we should probably use them again before they’re worthless. Halloween/fall is a fun time to go, so why not? We like Fort Wilderness Campground too, so my plan was just to stop there before we go home. Once we’re home, we probably won’t want to go anywhere for a little while. So….. Disney it is!

10/16 & 10/17/22: Tex-iana-missi-bama

The drive from the Brewery in Beaumont to the State Park in Mobile Alabama was nearly 400 miles. A very long day, but all on Interstate Freeways 10 & 12, with no BIG cities so it was uninterrupted driving. (I-10 goes down into New Orleans: I-12 is the by-pass, so we took the by-pass.) It was light before 8:00, so we hitched up our wagon and got on the road. Our cities to transit today were Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and Mobile. None of them were congested, just offered more lanes, more traffic and more things to pay attention to compared to the long stretches in-between. We were in four states today… Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It wasn’t far from Beaumont Texas to Louisiana. And guess what?! Those rascally cajuns did not even welcome us! They just told us we were in their state with a State Line sign. 🤨 And here I thought they were friendlies. 💁‍♀️

10/14 & 10/15/22: Cousin time and another brewery

Friday we woke up while it was still dark outside at 7:00?. Hmm 🤔 OH! I know what happened. When we came into Texas, we changed to the Central Time Zone, so we are at the western edge of it, and THAT’s why it was still dark at 7:30am. Sunrise wasn’t until 8:00!! Well, we made coffee and got things ready to go, but tried to not make any noise outside until sunrise. 😉 And it was GORGEOUS!! That’s some big ol’ Texas sky!

10/13/22 – Big ol’ Texas

We left our brewery camping spot at about 9:00, and we were next to the last rig to leave. Crazy early birds!! Our trip today was about 260 miles east to a winery in Canyon, Texas – just south of Amarillo. When we arrived in New Mexico, we were not welcomed. When we left, we were not thanked for visiting. Just a sign telling us we were leaving. And the road still sucked.

10/11 & 10/12/22 – Eastward to New Mexico

Tuesday morning was a get up and go day. We got all hooked up and loaded up and then realized…. Kawi may not move from his spot in the trailer until we get home! 😳 That’s kind of a weird realization, since that’s 10 days from now, and no more riding until ??? 🙁 So, we’ll be living with this dusty fella in our house for awhile. At least we have access to seating, the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom, and that was the whole idea of getting Nitro. (Our daughter reminded me that I have not yet explained to you about that whole adventure and switcharoo of trailers. 🫢 I will, eventually when I have some time to take you back in time with me.)

10/9 & 10/10/22: More magnificent Moab

Sunday, our fun neighbors packed up and left for home. They didn’t play loud music last night, but they did run their generator all night again. It didn’t bother us. I mentioned to Gary that it was awfully quiet last night, and he said they’re old and only have one good night in them, then have to recover. 😊 I get it!
This is what the area looks like where the campground is. The campground is almost in the center of the picture – just to the right of the tree that is left of center. Yep – we’re just out in the desert.

10/7 & 10/8: Moab does not disappoint

Friday morning we packed up and left our awesome spot in the Dixie National Forest. I sure hope we can get the kids to come here someday! Our first stop was to go over to Ruby’s to water-up and poop-out. $20! Geeze. It would be free if you stayed in their RV park, but Kenny said that even their dry camping spots were over $40/night. I guess that’s paying for the benefit of having everything close by? We got those chores done, then we were on our way east to Moab. Our route first took us west to Panguitch, then north to meet I-70, then east to the Moab cut-off. The good thing about the route I chose was that we didn’t have to go back up a big steep climb to I-15. We just followed a river north to I-70, and Henry really liked that.

10/6/22 – more Dixie Natl Forest and red cliffs

Thursday we had a leisurely morning, waiting for it to warm up a bit. We didn’t want to be out toooo late this afternoon, since we wanted time to take Kawi over to Ruby’s for a washydowny to get the mud off before loading him back into Nitro. It was another beautiful day! We had a quick breakfast, I packed some snacks, and away we went!

Here is a map of the places we’ve been here at Dixie/Bryce. The red and brown tracks are from the spring. Those were the only roads open then due to snow. The pink trail is what we did yesterday, which was 70 miles, and the yellow is what we did today, 61 miles. There is still more to explore for next time! The little photo dots n the pink and yellow are some of the places that we saw red cliffs.

10/4 – 10/5/2022: Moving on to Bryce Canyon area

Tuesday morning we loaded up everything except for Kawi to move on to our next destination. Kenny’s route out of the sand worked great, and I followed Henry & Nitro in Kawi. Once we were out onto the more solid entrance road, we loaded Kawi and away we went. We stopped in Cedar City to top off Henry’s fuel tank. Boy, these uppydownys are sure hard on his fuel economy!! Here was our route today – just 140 miles to Bryce. Uphill most of the way. Our new camping spot is up about 5000’ from Sand Hollow at 7700’ elevation. 😳 I hope we can breathe with out tiny sea-level lungs!

10/3/22: Getting dusty red in Sand Hollow

Monday was another lil bit rainy morning, with some thunderousboomus, so we just relaxed awhile. Here is the view out our door. Yep- a dusty road. So when anybody goes by, we get dusted. At least there has usually been a bit of a breeze blowing to the left so it doesn’t blow right up at us! You can see a little bit of the sand depth here, where Henry braaped in here and Nitro peeled out getting ’round the corner! It wasn’t near as bad as some of the big rigs we’ve seen mobbin through the tundra! YIKES!
