10/14/23 -Movin on down to O-Hi-O

Saturday morning everything was wet, wet, wet outside. Kenny swept all the tree debris off of our roof and slides before we put them in, we hooked up Nitro and hoped we didn’t peel out in the mud. This little campground has a lot of muddy spots! Then we loaded Kawi inside our house, leaves and all, and away we went to head SOUTH finally. We got to drive on Interstate 75, which is our hometown freeway in Sarasota, and it was in much better condition than the highways we drove to get here. Kenny said, “can we just stay on this road til we get home?” But no- we have stops to make along the way. There was a sign along the freeway somewhere that said Tampa is 1107 miles away. But first…. Ohio.

Day 125-Exploring South Bass

Thursday July 22, 2021.
Temp: 71 /61, Humidity: 47/74%, Top Wind: SE4 mph, Precip: nope. Miles Traveled: maybe 8 on Speedo

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There wasn’t much of a plan for today since our buddies are all gone. But we decided to take advantage of a free night, so we’re hangin out and enjoying the perfect weather. It’s sunny and about 70 degrees with a bit of a breeze. Probably a really good day to travel, but we’re staying put. I’m not good at just sitting on the boat when there’s more exploring to do, so we got Speedo out on the dock, and I went on an adventure. As I headed to town, I had to stop and wait for some sailboats to be drug across the road on their little trailers. These were the little sail boats at the Yacht Club that have been racing around the last few days.
Day 123 & 124 – Put-in-Bay
Tuesday July 20, 2021.
Temp: 87 ☀️ /72, Humidity: 42/81%, Top Wind: NE14 mph, Precip: thunder & rain in the evening. Miles Traveled: 11
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Today we couldn’t leave until somebody else left before us. The three go-fast SeaRay boats right in front of us were together from Detroit, and weren’t ready to leave until 11-ish check-out time. Our buddies on SloPace were in the same timing situation as us…. we couldn’t check in at our new location until noon, and it was only 11 miles away. So nobody was in a big hurry. What all of this really meant was that we had time to go to the local bakery. Yummmm.😋. We got apple fritters, maple bacon, chocolate donuts, lemon bars….. I won’t divulge the $ cost, but we’ll just say that we made a nice contribution to the local economy, but got some real yumminess in return.
Day 122- Kelley’s Island
Monday July 19, 2021.
Temp: 79 /71, Humidity: 66/86%, Top Wind: NW7 mph, Precip: none – just really hazy, Miles Traveled: 10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We had to say good-bye to our roller coaster marina this morning. 🙃. We sure had a fun time here! Up next is a ten mile voyage to the nearest island for some bicycle adventures. We didn’t want to leave too early, to give the boats in the marina where we are headed a chance to get out of our way.

Day 120 & 121-Ride On!

Saturday July 17, 2021.
Temp: 74 /70, Humidity: 64/98%, Top Wind: NE21mph, Precip: Early morning rain, Miles Traveled: one for Island Girl, 10,752 steps for us

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had some early morning rain, but that cleared up. However, there was a big ol bunch of wind. It wasn’t terrible right here in our slip, but we could see out to the bay and it was rough out there! We were only planning to move one mile across the bay today, but there was a small craft advisory out on the lake, so we knew the wind was cookin. 🌬 Oh boy. We couldn’t go to the new marina until 11:00and the wind was increasing as the morning wore on. We actually considered if we should just stay here another night and adjust our reservation over there. The wind was pushing us away from the dock, taking up that little 18 inches of space that we had between us and the neighbor boat. It was blowing from the northeast. That meant that in the marina where we were going, we should have a bit of shelter. I texted fellow loopers on Happiness Is, who were already there. They said it was actually pretty calm in their marina. Okeedokee then! Captain said – let’s go!
Day 119-Entering Lake Erie’s playground
Friday July 16, 2021.
Temp: 78 /71, Humidity: 73/98%, Top Wind: SW6 mph, Precip: rain afternoon & evening, Miles Traveled: 55
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It’s always about the forecast, right? I remember how bored I was after we finished our first loop. It was a real let down kind of depression to decompress and not be on duty all the time! There was no intensive weather forecast research from multiple different sources, no navigation routing, no daily searches for where we’d sleep each night. And no blog to take pictures for and write about! If anybody tells you that the Loop is a relaxing trip, that’s just some kind of stowaway without any ‘sponsibilities!
So what was the plan for today? The weather predictors said that waves would be less than one foot, wind would be less than 10mph, and we had 55 miles to go west today. I was awake at about 5:15, and the alarm was set for 5:30. I got up, turned on some lights, got coffee made and made a little noise so that the captain could wake up gently. He so hates the sound of an alarm! It was beautifully calm outside. It was very humid, but there was no dew on anything, which was nice! We pulled our lines and shoved off before 6:00!! This was the view from our dock spot.

Day 117 & 118- Rock and Roll!

Wednesday July 14, 2021.
Temp: 81 /72, Humidity: 64/85%, Top Wind: S15 mph, Precip: none!!, Miles Traveled: not far

++++++++++++++++++

It is still humid, and our shoes are still soaking wet. It was nice to sleep in and not have to wake up to an alarm and try to figure out where we are! It was a nice leisurely morning. I flipped all of our clothes around, put some up in the sun in the fly bridge and hoped they’d dry.
Our only plan for today was to go to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum, which is close enough to hit with a marshmallow. It was warm out with a chance of rain at any time, but we found some dry shoes to put on and moseyed on up there.

Day 116- Hello Cleveland!

Tuesday July 13, 2021.
Temp: 79 /69, Humidity: 74/97%, Top Wind: SW17 mph, Precip: RAIN!, Miles Traveled: 46 miles + maybe 3 miles on foot

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The weather was kind of uncertain for today. As near as I could tell, it should be good. But I really have to pay attention to the direction that the wind and waves are coming from as we tootle along this southern shore of Lake Erie. So even though the wind looked like it might actually be more than yesterday, the waves looked less due to their direction. Fingers crossed as we untied our lines and set out for the morning. We got up early schmirly and were the second boat out of the marina at 6:00.
Day 115- On to OHIO!
Monday July 12, 2021.
Temp: 76 /66, Humidity: 83/98%, Top Wind: E16 mph, Precip: RAIN!, Miles Traveled: 56
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I postponed our get up and outta here a little bit this morning, waiting for the lake to calm down a bit. The forecast had waves over night, but calming as the day goes on, so I thought we’d give them a bit. We were nice and calm in the marina, inside the bay. Our friends on Hallelujah! left early and sent a text that it was rough on the nose going out the channel, but once turned and going west it was a little more comfortable. Well – we can’t wait all day, so we pulled our lines and hit the road at about 7:45.
