Day 27-Georgetown and she-crab-soup

Thursday, April 15, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 75/64, Humidity: 90/47%, Top Wind: W12 mph, Precip: sprinkles, Miles Traveled: 27

*********************

This was a nice short day without any shallow crazy tidal or current concerns. YAY! We weren’t in a big hurry, so I took my quick walk to the seafood shop, then we cast off lines about 9:00. It was a comfortable temperature outside, but once we got underway, the wind was on our tail and it was plenty warm and humid feeling without any breeze that we could feel.

Day 26-McClellanville

Wednesday, April 14, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 75/54, Humidity: 100/63%, Top Wind: s24 mph, Precip: none, Miles Traveled: 40

********************

This is a tiny little shrimping town with less than 600 residents. But there is a dock, and a fresh seafood shop, and it’s half way between Charleston and Georgetown. So we figured – why not stop here again? Unfortunately, it’s Wednesday, and their one restaurant is only open for dinner Thursday through Sunday. 🤨. Dang. We’d been told that it is really good. Oh well – we’ll hit the seafood shop!
But wait -I’m getting ahead of the story. Let’s back up to this morning as we are leaving The Harborage at Ashley Marina. We left the dock at about 8:45. The tidal current wasn’t running hard, we didn’t need to do much in the way planning to be anywhere specific with timing for high tide today. (WHEW!). There was only a little bit of dew to be wiped down, and my towel worked good! 😁👍

Day 25-Chores

Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 78/59, Humidity: 76/35%, Top Wind: NE10 mph, Precip: none, Miles Traveled:over 6,500 steps

**********************

Exactly what it says. It was chore day for the Island Girl crew. The weather was nice – not too hot or humid, so it was a good day to catch up on things. We could have the doors and windows open for a breeze and it was nice. Mechanic changed the fuel filters and washed the boat. She no longer has her chocolate moostache! Would you look at that!!! (Yes – we have fenders down on the open slip side on purpose, just in case a boat comes in next to us. Better safe than sorry!)

Day 24-Wearing holes in our shoes!

Monday, April 12, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 85/61, Humidity: 93/22%, Top Wind: W13 mph, Precip: none, Miles Traveled:over 20,000 steps 😳👣🚶🏼

**********************

My phone health app says I walked 8.5 miles. What?! How can that be? But both of our phones show over 20,000 steps and over 8 miles! 😳 On average a normal stride step is 2.2 feet. Mathematically, it works out: 20,000 steps x 2.2=44,000 feet / 5280 feet per mile = 8.3 miles. Wowza- PLEEEZE don’t tell Kenny he walked that far!!

Day 23-Challenging Charleston

Sunday, April 11, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 74/64, Humidity: 99/65%, Top Wind: SW12 mph, Precip: none but dark clouds, Miles Traveled: 68 miles

**********************

This was one of those days when we had to set the alarm to get up early so that we could leave by sunrise. The timing with the tides and current was going to work out perfectly today! We had three major challenges today: a known shallow section about 18 miles from here, another shallow area 14 miles after that, a swift current cut just before Charleston, as well as the current on Ashley River in Charleston. (Yes – the river is tidal influenced, so current actually goes both ways there.) Timing couldn’t have been better. We must have an amazing navigator 😁 (who knows luck when she sees it!). Last loop in 2018, we had to do this stretch in two days due to the tides. I was feeling pretty good about my plan. Captain said he tossed and turned all night, with recurring dreams of being stuck in deep-enough water, but shallow water all around us so that we couldn’t get out! Oh dear. I guess I better not go through this kind of route briefing with him right before bed.🥴

Our escape from the Lady’s Island Marina couldn’t have been easier. We were docked with our bow pointed out, right into the channel! Thank goodness, because the dew point and the temperature were having a love affair, and it took several hours for the windows to clear! Those two can get so steamy! Our sunrise was pretty with just a few clouds as we pulled away.

Day 22-Lazy day on Lady’s Island

Saturday, April 10, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 74/63, Humidity: 96/66%, Top Wind: S21 mph, Precip: some rain, Miles Traveled: Only 8400 steps

*******************

It was a sleep-in day, and a good day to stay in port, since it got a bit windy today. We didn’t have much of a plan today. It wasn’t until about noon that we discovered that there was a WAFFLE HOUSE nearby! 😳. We knew that we wanted to have an early dinner at the nearby Dockside restaurant, so we passed up the waffle opportunity since we didn’t want to be stuffed before dinner.

Day 21-Beaufort (B’you-fert)

Friday, April 9, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 73/60, Humidity: 97/67%, Top Wind: SW10 mph, Precip: some rain, Miles Traveled: 30

****************

What a beautiful morning! We weren’t in a big hurry since we knew that Mark the harbor/lock master wouldn’t be in until 8:00. So we had a leisurely time getting ready to go. And our journey was only about 30 miles today. We decided to have Mark come and pump out our black water tank since it was right here at the dock, and we’re the only ones here. Then we tossed our lines and out the lock we went. This was our beautiful morning view of the clubhouse. Too bad the pool was closed due to the electrical issues – it would have been so swanky to spend some time over there!

********************

Today’s adventure was to explore Hilton Head. Our mode of transportation was our Lectric Bikes. Yep – that is the brand. And I am so thankful for them! I NEVER EVER in my lifetime would have gotten Kenny to ride 16 miles without power assist. This way, my good buddy goes on bike adventures with me! Yipee! 🏍. Meet Speedy and Speedo, our identical twins.

Day 19-Hilton Head Harbor Hosts

Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
Weather: Temp: 85/52, Humidity: 76/20%, Top Wind: S11 mph, Precip: None, Miles Traveled: 25

********************

Today would be a short travel day, but we wanted to have some tide in our favor for a few spots. We were up just after 6:00, and off the dock well before sunrise. It was a nice calm morning, with no dew whatsoever to deal with, which was really nice! We had shorts on, and long sleeves shirts – the wind was a little bit chilly at 60 degrees, but not terrible. The crescent moon was still up with a few of its favorite stars.
