Today’s adventure was to explore Hilton Head. Our mode of transportation was our Lectric Bikes. Yep – that is the brand. And I am so thankful for them! I NEVER EVER in my lifetime would have gotten Kenny to ride 16 miles without power assist. This way, my good buddy goes on bike adventures with me! Yipee! 🏍. Meet Speedy and Speedo, our identical twins.

They only had 16 miles on them when we started the day. 😁. Kenny used up more of his energy bar than I did, but hey, that’s why we have batteries that go zoom! It really was fun to ride today! Hilton Head is pretty darn flat, and there are bike paths everywhere. Bicycling is a very common mode of transportation here, so crossings are well marked, and the vehicle traffic is aware.

We had to go over a mile just to get out to the main drag from the boat. This is the entrance to Wexford Plantation.

Here is the kind of bike trails that are everywhere! Such a great place to tootle around!

Because we needed purpose and a destination, we were headed to the north end of the island to check out the Hilton Head Brewing Company. Why not?! We had to stop several times to check the Google on my phone for directions. And wouldn’t you know it, we went right past the little road that we needed to turn on, so we had to do a U-turn and go back to find it. But – voila!

The inside wasn’t very big, but they had a nice outside patio.

Unfortunately for my stout-porter drinker, there wasn’t a dark beer on the menu! Or cider. So Kenny had a dopplesticke (yes – that really is a kind of beer), and I had a wine. We decided to have some food too, and their sliders were terrific! I had smoked turkey, that was smokey and moist, and Kenny had pork belly. He said it was good, but I just can’t imagine biting into a pile of fat and enjoying it. 🥴

Just down the block was the Island Winery. Since we’re here, why not check it out too?! We each got six tastes for $8, and the pours were pretty good size. Except they only had two whites. two reds, and the rest were fruity/berry wines, so Kenny only had four tastes and I had five. We didn’t buy anything, but it was still fun to sit outside, hang out and taste wine.

This was the barrel room where there were some tables.

The is inside seating area where the bar was to get refills. It was all very casual, and you could just come inside to get your next flavor poured and stay as long as you liked.

Literally right across the street was the Hilton Head Distillery. We didn’t go there, but I looked on-line, and they do vodka, and a variety of whiskeys and rums.

It was almost 5:00 and the sun was trying to hide behind some clouds, so it was cooling down. We decided to start heading back. I tried to get a picture of bike riders on the other side of the street, just to give an idea of the biking around here.

We took a little detour at a road that was a short jaunt out to Burkes Beach. We parked and walked the sandy trail out to the Atlantic ocean..

There were lots of people out there, most of them packing up to head out.

This brave crew of kids all had their noodles and looked like they were ready to go swimming, no matter what!

Back on the bikes, we took another detour to the other side of the road to check out the Shelter Cove area. There is a big marina here, which is where I had originally intended to try to get reservations.

Low and behold, there is a Disney resort here! Disney only has a couple of resorts that are not associated with their amusements parks. This is one, there is another in Vero Beach Florida, and then of course, the Aulani resort near Honolulu Hawaii.

This was a great big statue of Neptune, which is actually a sundial! The sun wasn’t shining brightly, so we couldn’t tell what time it was, but it was a neat sculpture and really big.

This is the world’s largest figurative sundial and it weighs more than a ton. The sundial is 26 feet in diameter, and when the sun strikes the shaft of the trident, a shadow falls on the base indicating the time. It was really neat.

There are restaurants and shops along this beautiful walkway that winds around the marina.

We saw a lot of these Hilton Head Taxis today. I guess you need to be careful when you request a taxi on this island, because this might be what you get! HA!

Everywhere we went, I would get whisps of a beautiful fragrance. I thought it was jasmine, and I just really enjoyed the scent when we would waft through it. These were really pretty bushes, but I don’t know what they were.

We saw three different mini-golf places, and this evening on our ride back, they were all very busy. I suggested to Kenny that we should stop and play a round. But he reminded me that I really, really suck at mini-golf (it’s true). 🤷‍♀️ I told him the loser would buy the beer, and then he said that the loser of each hole would have to drink beer. Oh. That’s really a bummer, since this loser doesn’t like beer. Oh OK, no mini golf today. 🤭🍺

Back at Wexford, I stopped to take a couple of shots of the golf course. I can’t even count the number of courses we passed today. One of them had great big sprinklers going, and it made us think about how much water this island uses to keep the more than 23 golf courses watered. This island is just golf course heaven.

It’s such a pretty ride through the neighborhood here.

We had a really fun day, and really enjoyed the bikes. This was a perfect place to ride, and the peddle-assist is awesome. When we had a big clear straight-away, we kicked it up to level 3 and went 17mph, and a couple of times we cranked the throttle, too! WEEEEE! But we are pretty tuckered out tonight because we did peddle for 16 miles and got lots of fresh air and exercise. 😊

Tomorrow we can’t leave until 8:00, since we need to wait for the harbormaster to open the lock for us. (YAY! no pre-sunrise hop-out 😴). Next stop is Beaufort (B’you-fert) SC. Hilton Head was a fun stop!
