Day132&133- Stuart’s crazy adventure

Temp: 74 /68, Humidity: 79/100 %, Top Wind: NE21 mph, Precip: none – Sunny then WINDY!, Miles Traveled: maybe 9- in Stuart!

***************************

It was calm this morning. We should have made a move to the next town, but we kind of already had it in our minds that we were staying here, so it didn’t dawn on us that moving might have been wise. Oh well. So here we are. We know it’s going to get super windy tonight, and tomorrow will not be a travel day. So… I had it on high recommendation that we should take Stuart for a spin out to the Lighthouse, then to Turnip Rock. Captain was less than enthusiastic about the idea. The lighthouse is two miles away from shore, out in the big water. And even though it was calm in the harbor, what could it be doing ‘out there’? So I took a walk to the breakwater to go see. Along the way was this neat piece of art.

We didn’t get up with the sun today, since we only planned to go about 35 miles to Port Sanilac. The forecast was for some really nice water today, so we were expecting a nice ride out there. We tootled out of our yacht club spot at about 7:20 and out into the St Clair River. This brick oven thing caught my eye as we were leaving the Black River. I don’t have any idea what it is, but the gardens around it were pretty.

Today was mostly sunny, more humid, but not as hot as yesterday as we traveled along. It was a beautiful sunrise as we left Miliken Marina and headed out. It was going to be a long slow day as we made our way out of the Detroit River, across Lake St. Clair, and up the St Clair River to Port Huron.

Our adventure today was to go to the town of Dearborn to see the Henry Ford Museum and tour the Ford F150 Truck plant. The place doesn’t open until. 9:30, so we didn’t have to get up super early. We had a cup of coffee, got ready, and dialed up an Uber.
This is the Miliken State Park right here at the marina – really a nice place right along the river front.

Before we talk about today, take a look at what was going on last night! We had a big ol’ thunderstorm and it rained so hard that the surface of the water between here and the boat lift over there looked like snow rather than water! Fortunately, it didn’t last long and most of the storm went around us. But for some reason, it brought out all kinds of bugs! Out boat was covered with bugs, and some kind that left blobs of green snotty gel. Kenny couldn’t stand it, and he got out the hose and sprayed everything down this morning. It was gross. 🤢

We were planning to leave Put-in-Bay around 8:30….but there was a thunderstorm in the area. Our neighbor boat was a local, headed to Toledo, and he said he was going to wait a couple of hours for it to pass. Those things can stir up some big waves. OK! We’ll take some local intel, and we decided to stay put for a couple more hours. We kept watching the weather.com radar, and by 10:15 it looked like it has passed to the south of us, so we pulled lines and bugged out. Put-in-Bay had more and more boats coming in and filling up the docks. Adios! We may never be this way again.

Temp: 71 /61, Humidity: 47/74%, Top Wind: SE4 mph, Precip: nope. Miles Traveled: maybe 8 on Speedo

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There wasn’t much of a plan for today since our buddies are all gone. But we decided to take advantage of a free night, so we’re hangin out and enjoying the perfect weather. It’s sunny and about 70 degrees with a bit of a breeze. Probably a really good day to travel, but we’re staying put. I’m not good at just sitting on the boat when there’s more exploring to do, so we got Speedo out on the dock, and I went on an adventure. As I headed to town, I had to stop and wait for some sailboats to be drug across the road on their little trailers. These were the little sail boats at the Yacht Club that have been racing around the last few days.
Temp: 87 ☀️ /72, Humidity: 42/81%, Top Wind: NE14 mph, Precip: thunder & rain in the evening. Miles Traveled: 11
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Today we couldn’t leave until somebody else left before us. The three go-fast SeaRay boats right in front of us were together from Detroit, and weren’t ready to leave until 11-ish check-out time. Our buddies on SloPace were in the same timing situation as us…. we couldn’t check in at our new location until noon, and it was only 11 miles away. So nobody was in a big hurry. What all of this really meant was that we had time to go to the local bakery. Yummmm.😋. We got apple fritters, maple bacon, chocolate donuts, lemon bars….. I won’t divulge the $ cost, but we’ll just say that we made a nice contribution to the local economy, but got some real yumminess in return.
We had to say good-bye to our roller coaster marina this morning. 🙃. We sure had a fun time here! Up next is a ten mile voyage to the nearest island for some bicycle adventures. We didn’t want to leave too early, to give the boats in the marina where we are headed a chance to get out of our way.
