4/12/24 Mosey on into Oklahoma

Spending the night at:  Pines Trails Campground in Robber’s Cave State Park near Wilburton Oklahoma
Weather- clear & sunny. Hi 77, low 58, Humidity Hi 68%, low 29% Another NICE day!!

$28.40/night for Site 19 on the passenger side at the top of a hill including 30 & 50 amp power and water. Long and wide, but have to back up a gravel hill and make a 90 degree turn in-between goal post trees to get in! UGH! We’re staying two nights and there are offroad trails here in the campground. Site 20 would have been WAAAY easier to get into! Darn. You just can’t see the trees and elevation changes on maps to know these things in advance.

This was our route today. I forgot to turn this on when we left the campsite, and then I forgot to turn it off when we arrived at the new one, so it was really more like 180 miles, and it took us about 3.5 hours to get to our spot in Oklahoma.

Robber’s Cave State Park is huge with several campgrounds. The one we are in is a mile south of this main park map.

We arrived! Now to see what kind of site we will be in.

This was the only map available, so I had really no idea where our site 19 might be or what it would look like. The map was mostly of the trails for the off road adventure.

UGH! We had to go down this hill, then back the rig back up it and into the spot. Henry used every muscle of his four-wheel-drive to back up this thing. We should have unloaded Kawi first, but we always hate blocking the road because it does take us a hot minute to accomplish that task. The campground has no ranger or host, and is by reservation only. You can just show up and get online and pay for an available, but the only way to know is to get on the reservation system. I suggested to Kenny that we pick an easier spot and call the park to change. Nope – he said he could do it. It’s always much harder to back into something on the passenger side of the vehicle, let alone going uphill backwards which makes the view in the mirrors even more difficult. I mostly just stood back by the trees to watch for possible injury to the equipment.

To top it off, there are trees on both sides of the driveway so even if you had a decent angle going in, the tree on the passenger side could scrape the top of trailer going in. It took awhile, and lots of back and forth, foward, back, turn, back, forward, back…..but Kenny and Henry were up to the challenge and got in there! The site is quite long and we could actually get Kawi out without hanging Henry out on the road hardly at all. SHEESH!

We have water and power here, and there are trails that go out of the campground, so tomorrow we’ll sleep in and then do some tootling around. I don’t expect the trails will be too challenging since it’s a state park, but we’ll see. I found this place on the OnX map which now has new icons showing places to ride.
