Yep, this is a spot with lots of water motion. Around sunrise the fishing boats go out, then at 9:00 all of the tour boats leave the boat basin, and we are rocking for the day. So around noon, we decided to get on land for awhile and to take a walk. Last night on Nebo, we saw that a Looper boat we know was over at a marina by Margaritaville. It showed that they just got there the day before we got here, so let’s go say Hello to Wine🍷Speed. Unfortunately, when we got there, they were gone! I texted Mike & Cindy…. they were on their way back to Marathon after only two nights here. Darn! Maybe we’ll catch up with them if we stop in Marathon on our way to where-ever we go from here.

6/17/20: Rocking Hawk Channel
Today we were up around 7:30. I called Keys Fisheries next door to see what their fuel dock hours are. It is open 7 until 11am. Great! They have the cheapest fuel in the keys: Diesel is $2.01 + tax = $2.16. And it’s right here. The best we can do for diesel in Key West is $2.64.
6/16/20: Soggy Doggy Day
I woke up at 6:30 and checked the weather. The current forecast for Sombrero Reef is for 12-18mph winds today. Nope. Go back to sleep. No diving for us today. 🙁. Two days ago when I looked at Tuesday, it was 2-5mph wind for the whole day, and waves 0.2-0.5 ft. My how things can change quickly around here!
6/15/20: Hello, Admin Tech Support??
It’s Monday, and the water is flat as a pancake. And it’s hot out there! We didn’t decide last night whether we would go scuba diving today or tomorrow. Tomorrow’s forecast looked a tiny bit better than today, so I guess that’s what we’ll do, considering that we didn’t get up and go today. 😏
6/14/20: WHAT was THAT?!
Sunday – As I ended yesterday’s post, I said the gulf was splat flat, nice and calm. Sheesh! I’m glad we weren’t hanging on an anchor last night! We were sitting watching TV, and at about 9:30 the boat started to dance around a bit. Then we heard the wind start to howl at the windows. WHAT? We pulled up the weather on our phones, and here is what we found.

6/12/20: Fish Market Friday
Our days here will be filled with lots of relaxing, with maybe one or two things barely worthy of telling you about. Our days start slow… wake up and get up whenever you want. Have a couple of leisurely cups of coffee. Open the door and see how humid it is. Try to think of something to do. Or not.
I took a walk out to the outer boat basin, where the big girls are, and got a couple of pictures looking back. Here is a shot from the Google. The blue dot shows where we are in the inner basin. The Google shows a lot of grass floating in the slips and no boats. Neither is true today.
6/11/20: Marlin Bay, Marathon day one
OOPS. How does it happen that you go on a boat trip with the intention of swimming in a pool and scuba diving in the ocean, and forget to bring a swimsuit? It can happen. 😳 So today we need to figure out how to find Captain something to wear swimming. Apparently Amazon does not do one-day shipping to the Florida Keys. We are about 90 miles from Miami. We also need to find him some new sandals (like the Keen hiking/water kind). I’d say he blew out a flip-flop… but it’s really that he blew out the whole side of a regular sandal!

Up at 6:00. Sunrise at 6:30. We were off the dock just before sunrise, and it was a pretty way to start the day!
6/9/20: Cooperative weather
We weren’t in a hurry to get off the dock this morning. No rush, since the forecast said that the Gulf would be more calm in the afternoon than in the morning. It would take us 2-2.5 hours to get to Sanibel, which is where we’d go out to the open water. So we fixed some coffee and cast off lines about 8:30. Good-bye Cabbage Key. Maybe we’ll stop on our way back home. Here is a shot of the nice water conditions as we tootled out into Pine Island Sound. Beauteous!
