All systems GO!

Thursday, 3/9/17: We’ve been watching the weather closely, and as it turns out, Friday will be a better day to cross to the Bahamas than Saturday.  So – we are very glad that we came across the state and are in a position to make that change!  Here is what Friday looks like…. doesn’t get much better.  We’ve talked to several people that will be making the crossing on Friday.

This morning, we left Stuart and headed south, just about 38 miles to Lake Worth.  This is in the North Palm Beach area, where there is a good channel out into the ATLANTIC OCEAN!

It was a beautiful day, and a very scenic cruise down the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. We had about 7 miles left of the Okeechobee Waterway, to where it reached mile zero, and met Mile 988 of the Atlantic ICW.  We saw lots of mangrove areas with slow no-wake zones for manatees.  And we saw lots of beautiful huge homes with no-wake zones.  So it took nearly 5 hours to reach our destination, as it was a slow ride.

People playing on sand bars… kayakers, paddleboarders, swimmers, etc.

This one made us giggle.  The house is a wreck, but man, they have an awesome floatilla!

The coast guard is always busy keeping the waterways safe and updating the navigation markers.

This lighthouse was at the Jupiter inlet.  Not sure if it is still operational, but it sure was majestic!  I looked it up on-line.  It dates back to 1860!

We finally arrived at Riviera Beach Municipal Marina.  Holy smokes is this side of Florida busier than our side!  There are lots of marinas, boat yards, ship yards, boat builders, etc. here.  And BIG BIG and fast boats!  Here is a picture of new Viking boats all lined up.  I figured this would make my fishermen friends and relatives drool just a bit.

As they say, Red sky at night, sailors delight!

Tomorrow we will leave the marina at daybreak, watch the sun rise over the Atlantic on our way to the Bahamas!
