Nippers on Sunday

There is a dive/excursion shop here near the Green Turtle Club, so of course we scoped out what adventures we could do.  Even though we’re here on our own boat, we don’t know the best places to go.  We learned from our good friend Rick back home, that sometimes you just want to pay the locals for a trip and then pick their brains for local knowledge.  And we all know that a party is usually more fun with a bunch of people!  So we signed up for a trip to the famous Nipper’s Bar & Grill on Sunday. It is on Great Guana Cay, which is a couple of cays south of us.  In between here and there is a navigational challenge called Whale Cay.  We planned to get the scoop about going around it from our new local friends.

First stop on our adventure was at the next cay south of Green Turtle called No Name Cay.  They have swimming pigs!  Of course I had to get in the water and join the fun!  The boat skipper had a 5 gallon bucket full of bread for them.  They actually did swim out to us to get it.  But if it fell in the water, they wouldn’t eat it.  But little fishies came in for those scraps.

These pigs were pretty funny.  Some of them would sit on command.

It’s kind of odd to look toward the beach and see a herd of pigs just hanging out on the beach!  That wasn’t something you get to see or do every day!

This was our excursion boat for the day with Brendal’s  Dive Center.  They are a pretty well known tour operator in the Abacos.  They offer all kinds of adventures and were a great bunch of people.

Next stop – Great Guana (Goo-AH-na) Cay.

Here’s our little posse of friends!  April, Larry, Ellen, Kimbob, Kenny & me.

I saw this little structure, and thought it so fitting to my outlook on life!  “A smile can change the world.”  (and I saw later…. “and don’t let the world change your smile.”)

This is Nipper’s Beach Bar & Grill.  It is very well known in the Abacos.  And of all ironic things… it is pig roast Sunday. WHAT?!  We just fed pigs and now we’re going to eat pig?   This place is on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic ocean.  They have music playing that you can dance to and hear down on the beach, food & beverages flowing, a pool, and lots of people on Sundays for the pig roast buffet. We were only here for a few hours during lunch time, and it was picking up and getting more lively as the day went on.  I imagine the evening party is something to behold!

We had the pig roast buffet, and it was quite tasty!  Noo – these are not the cute little beach pigs from No Name Cay.  Those fellers are protected.

What a beautiful scene!! The weather was so nice, and the colors of the water so indescribable!

Oh how I love that sweet face!  We were cracking up – we have so much fun together!  (Kenny puts up with a LOT of goofyness from me.)

Time to get wet!  Can you believe how gorgeous this water is!?!  This is the Atlantic ocean!  It wasn’t too cold, or too warm.  I suspect maybe 76 degrees.  And the air temperature was probably in the upper 70’s as well.

A gaggle of young adults hangin’ out on the rock.  The girls liked to pose for the next issue of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

We are living our dream!  So blessed beyond words.
