Days 43,44: Wind,Rain,Sun at….Whortonsville?

4/24 & 25/18: Tuesday was the day with the Gale Warning – It rained nearly all day and was blustery.  Not a boat moved.  I got up and met a few of the ladies at the gym here at the marina.  Wow- what a nice facility!  And the washrooms were like a spa – with towels, slippers, a sauna and a steam room.  I took my yoga mat and Gladys with a yoga program to stream, and while they lifted weights and treaded on the mill, I did yoga.  Boy, that felt good.  Except I’ve never done yoga in front of a mirror.  THAT was not a pleasant sight to behold. 😳

Captain & I hung out in the boat the rest of the day, dinking around on the computer, reading a book, taking a little nap, watching movies, listening to the wind howl and the rain pound.  We only found one little leak…. onto my pillow.  The forward hatch had a little drip, but nothing too bad.  Everything else inside stayed nice and dry.  We had the heat on all day.  The restaurant is usually closed on Tuesdays, but since there were so many boats stuck here, they did a pizza night.  Several of us joined together for dinner, which was fun.  Oh – here’s the gang from the other night out by Nine Lives.

We have had real spotty cell service here, so we don’t always get text messages right away.  We have a text “party line” with our kids who all live in Washington State.  That three hour time difference means we often get texts at 1:00am our time.  And I really try not to send them morning texts at 4:00am their time. 😉  This morning I saw one that our oldest son sent last night – “Well what is going on in whortonsville”  and then a reply from our youngest son- “apparently nothin”.   This made me laugh.  We didn’t get the text, so didn’t answer them.  But they are right.  Nothin goin on here!  They know where we are from our Nebo tracker and our Travelmap, and they DO keep track of us!  Yep – there is a Whortonsville near us.  That’s about all that is near us.  It sounds like a Dr. Seussical place, like where Horton Hears a Who should live.

Wednesday morning, most of the looper boats were out of here by 8:30.  It looks like only us, Ned Pepper, and Total Eclipse decided to stay for the nice weather and the 4th night free.  We have some chance of thunderstorms later today, high of 75*.  The rest of the week is improving – highs in the upper 70’s, calm winds and waves, little chance of any precipitation.  YAY!  We might have found spring!  Seems like we’ve been trying to find 60* for the last month!  Something above 70 and breaking out the shorts will be nice!  We borrowed the marina courtesy car for a change of scenery.  We drove to Oriental, which is a small town about 10 miles from here.  It is a very small town.  But their Piggly Wiggly grocery store had a lot of good stuff!  And a delivery car too!

When we got back, it was time to turn on the air conditioning!  Seriously!  And we put on swim suits, grabbed a drink, a towel, and some sunscreen, and enjoyed sitting by the pool for a while.  The pool was very cold, but the sun was warm and I think my skin soaked up some vitamin D!  YAY! 😊☀  It felt good to just enjoy the sun and be resorty for a day!  Even though we were the only ones there.

I made reservations for tomorrow night at Belhaven Marina.  It’s just a 36 mile run tomorrow morning.  Weather is looking dandy good!  Then we’re trying to figure out how far to go next.  We plan to go through the Dismal Swamp in a couple of days.  Hopefully the locks and bridges will all be operational so that we can do that.  We’ll soon be in the Chesapeake Bay, and plan to spend about a month there.  One of the ports I hadn’t really planned to go to is Baltimore.  It’s a big city, and we really aren’t city peeps.  But we’ve heard it is great fun, and Camden Yards (Baltimore Orioles Baseball stadium) is so close, we might be able to catch a baseball game of the Orioles! This navigator better get with the cruise director and figure that out!
