6/21/20 Happy Father’s Day

It started with sunshine, coffee, and some fresh baked (out of a tube) cinnamon rolls for the dad/grampa/papa on this boat. But alas, he has had a headache all day. He spent the day really low key, hoping it would get better.

I did some exercises, sat out on the cockpit and read a book, and worked on our itinerary to travel home around the Florida loop. The crazy part of the whole trip? In a 65 mile stretch, there are thirteen bridges that we need to have opened! Actually, if the water isn’t really high, we may be OK on four of them, so that only leaves nine. Everybody says it is a tedious long couple of days to transit from Port of Miami north to Stuart. The worst piece is in the Boca Raton to Delray stretch. They are all on a schedule… every hour/half hour, on the :15/:45, or the :20/:40. And there are lots of manatee/no wake zones. But – it’s all part of the adventure, right? If we went offshore, we’d miss all the fun! And who knows what the weather will actually be. Plus, we want to plan it all so that we are not traveling on the weekends. Where will that put us for the July 4 weekend, and will we be able to get reservations somewhere? Ahhh – the life of the Navigator.

Is this the longest day of the year? Only 13:39 of daylight here in Key West. Back home in Washington state, they’re getting about 16 hours now. They are enjoying the loooong days of summer there.

Our weather is consistently hot and humid. High of 88, low of 82. Feels like over 100 during the day with about 70% humidity. 🥵. The good part is that there isn’t much chance of rain in the forecast. And the winds have been really calm.

That was the excitement of today! We had some thunder around 5:00pm, but the cloud went right on by without raining on us, so we’ve been dry for a few days now. Another pretty sunset through all the boats to the west of us.

Tomorrow’s jobs will be to do some laundry at the laundromat a few blocks away. The laundry/bathroom/shower building here at the marina is being refurbished and is closed. Also – the new battery terminal connectors did not fix Laverne’s starting problem. It looks as though the big giant battery has lived it’s life. So Mechanic will be working on a new battery solution tomorrow.
