9/17/20-Relaxing in the hot springs

Thursday: It was a 200 mile drive from Moab to Glenwood Springs. We were here last year, and I figured since we’re going this way again, we might as well stop and take a soak in the hot springs. Here’s our welcome to Colorado sign!

And this was the type of scenery for today. Big tall baren hills.

We had a reservation for the Iron Mountain Hot Springs from 3:00-5:30. Due to Covid, you must have a reservation so that they can control how many people are there. The pools were pretty much self monitored for social distancing. Masks are required everywhere in Colorado, but not while in the water.

This is such a beautiful setting right on the river. We met some nice people and really enjoyed the pools. We did three of the coolest temperature ones…100, 101, and 102. There was one that was 107. Every degree matters! Interestingly, the springs that feed the pool are really hot, and they add cool water to adjust the temperature of each pool.

What goonie birds. Nice pile of rocks there, too!

After our soak, we walked the pedestrian bridge across the river to old town Glenwood Springs. This was the big public hot spring pool! It’s huge!

There is quite a cool place under the bridge with all kinds of restaurants. It was a fun place that we had not been to before.

Tomorrow we will head for higher elevation. Oh dear. I’m pretty sure I’m in trouble with the captain for that.
