It was cloudy and the wind blew a lot today. We didn’t do much of anything except hang out on the boat. In fact, I’m pretty sure Kenny didn’t even set foot on the dock once today. It was just kind of a crappy day. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing from a direction that the waves were blowing into the marina at us, so we were moving around a lot. It was not a calm and peaceful day on the water. 😏. But there really wasn’t anything else to do, so we just spent the day at home.

It did calm down a bit in the evening, and rained a bit, then Kenny grilled a steak on our little bbq on the aft deck. But notice the flag is still sticking straight out in the wind, even after it ‘calmed down’.

It was a pretty sunset, but that’s about all we have to show for the day. We had terrible cell service and terrible wifi, so I couldn’t even work on this blog for you while we were sitting around being bored!

Today was still another windy day, (ongoing theme, huh?) so we stayed put for another night. Might as well have a mimosa to celebrate, right? Yum. This strawberry syrup is really, really good!

It was chilly and windy, so we had our jackets on. We stopped by the dockmaster’s office at the shore end of our dock to pay for our third night, but he wasn’t there. We tootled on over to the pool to see how the weather was there, and it was really nice and sheltered from the wind. And we found the dockmaster. He said not to worry about the dockage, that he’d comp it for us. How nice! He said laundry is free too, if we needed to do any.

Well, I can’t pass up free laundry. I’ll find something to wash! I took the cart all by myself to check out where the laundry room was. I was really hoping that I wouldn’t turn the cart into a submarine, but thankfully, the docks have nice high side rails. ☺️. The wetlands area is just so green and pretty. Its probably full of bugs especially at dusk, but really pretty during the day.

YIKES! Wild driver!

I finally had to ask somewhere where the laundry, washrooms, and showers for the marina guests. AH HA! They are in the Dockside Cafe building. I checked out the restaurant while I was there, and found out they offer wood fired pizza. Yum! It was Saturday and they said that they can get pretty busy between 5 and 7. So I put a load of stuff in the washer, and when it was done, we went up for dinner while the clothes were drying. We got there just before 5:00, and there was hardly anyone there. They had a really nice screened-in porch which we really enjoyed!

We got our pizzas, and we probably really only needed one. They were really yummy, but I only ate half of mine. More for later! By the time we left, many of the tables were full. Our timing was good.

Back at the boat, I captured our last sunset for the Albemarle Sound trip.

We deliberated all day on where and how we should go tomorrow. The forecast for tomorrow isn’t bad, should be calm in the morning, with more wind in the afternoon. But Monday is supposed to be windy again (of course!) and RAIN too! At the same time! Great! So it is about 85 miles from here to Norfolk. If we go the pink way, which would be new to us, we could go all the way in one day, or take two days. But that big sound out there is Currituck Sound, and I don’t have any idea how rough it can get. The afternoon or Monday would both be rough, and that is the route that all the fast boats go, and we’ve heard the horror stories about getting waked by the big fast sportsfisher boats out there. If we take the green route, that is the Dismal Swamp, which we did in 2018, and it takes two days from here. It’s beautiful, but once you get into the canal, it is a 6mph speed limit, and there are locks on each end to ensure that you stay in the time and speed limitations. Besides, it’s shallow with lots of submerged water-logged logs so that you don’t want to go fast anyway. We finally decided to take the calmer route, so we’ll get up before the sun and go the Dismal route.

We enjoyed Albemarle Plantation. If we were golfers, we would have been in heaven while we were wind-bound here. Or if the air temperature had been warmer, we could have really enjoyed the big beautiful pool. They treated us so generously, and everyone was so super friendly. We certainly have no complaints.
