March 20, 2023: Westward Departure 2.o

Monday morning, I was up at 5:15. 🥱. Our plan was to get to the RV place in Clearwater by 8:00 to get Mr. Nitro and then we’d be on our way. All we needed to do was pack up all the things that we just brought home a few days ago, and turn everything off again so that the homestead is ready to spend the summer without us. We were on the road before 6:30, and long before the sun woke up!
This was the view of Tampa Bay as we drove across the Sunshine Bridge. Beautiful!!

We paid the people, and they brought our big buddy out of the shop for us. Everyone at this Clearwater Motorcoaches is so nice! And Nitro looks so good with no broken glass! We loaded everything up, secured the cabin, fastened seatbelts, and took off. Destination today was just west of Tallahassee, over 300 miles from Clearwater.

With driving north in the early morning, the sun was blasting the side of my face, right over the edge of my sunglasses. The truck’s visor didn’t help, so I made my own. Kenny said that I look like a rapper homie. 🧢

Here is the newest pencil plan. I like using “myscenicdrives.com” for planning. I can put in my origination and destination, with a desired drive time per day, and it will show on the map approximately where you’ve reached your maximum drive time each day. It’s totally adjustable, and it is a great place to start. Then I tweek and add days and adjust based on where we want to go, etc.

YAHOO! At about 12:30 today, we finally turned WEST! Yes – that is us, as a boat on the Interstate freeway. 😄 I turned on NEBO, a boating app, so that our kids can keep track of us.

Tonight’s campground was about eight miles from Interstate-10, and part of that was down a dirt road, although it was pretty smooth.

We made it, and we were both really tired/sleepy. 😴. High Bluff Campground is a no frills kind of state forest campground. There is no water or power, and just a pit toilet. The good thing was that I could make a reservation in advance, so we’d be assured a spot. There are about 18-20 sites here, and actually only one other site was occupied when we arrived.

I was super happy that through all of my Google map overlooks and stuff that I picked the best spot in the whole place for our big rig.

Kenny took a short nap, and I wandered around the campground. It is on Lake Talquin, has a fishing dock and a boat launch.

There was a local feller down at the dock with some poles in the water. He hadn’t caught anything yet. This pole caught my eye- it’s like a Huck Finn pole! Really long, with just a line tied to the end. I guess if you get a fish on, you just whip it up and bring the fish up onto the dock.

Ah – there’s our pretty and spacious spot. It is beautiful here! The temperature is only in the 50’s today, and tonight’s low is forecasted to be about 35 degrees. Brrrrr. We’re still feeling the effects of a cold front that swooped down through Florida the last couple of days. Tomorrow will be 20 degrees warmer!

This is life with Kawi. 😉. When we only stay one night, we don’t mess with letting Kawi out. That was a big part of why we bought this particular trailer. It’s a little cramped inside while sharing space with Kawi, but we still have full access to our bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Living area is snug, so Kenny put Kawi to work, serving as a table for dinner. 😏. This is not a place for hoity-toity people to hang out! HA!

Today’s stop was just for purposes of a place to stay. There isn’t anything we intended to do here but stay the night and then continue on our adventure tomorrow. We’ll cross through Alabama and stay in Mississippi tomorrow as our journey west continues.
