12Mar19 Stone Crab for dinner

Tuesday: We woke up to a beautiful sunny day.  What a blessing to be in this beautiful place!  I was sitting on the back deck of the boat in the morning shade, having my coffee.  Captain was still lounging in bed.  All of the sudden I heard a fish flop in the water near the boat, then BAMM!  Something hit the swim step!  I looked over the edge, and there was a barracuda, about 3 feet long, swimming away with a fish about 10” long hanging out of it’s mouth!  I bet Mr. Barry was hanging out under the boat in the shade, just waiting for an unsuspecting breakfast to swim by.  It sure startled me!😳    It was a beautiful day, calm breeze, and a nice warm pool.  Ahhhh!   Here are some pics of this pretty place:

I had decided that I wanted some Florida Stone Crab for dinner.  Key Fisheries is almost right next door, and they have a restaurant with a lot of excellent seafood.  I had read that you could get stone crab claws upstairs for $3.00 each.  I didn’t know exactly what that meant, but we’d go figure it out.  Right around sunset, we changed out of our swimwear and struck out for a walk.  We found Key Fisheries…. a place with a lot of fishing boats, and piles and piles of traps – maybe for lobster?  There was a tiki hut on stilts creating an “upstairs” with picnic tables below.  On ground level there was a fish market where you could buy fresh seafood, although it was closed.  And then there was a line of about 20 people waiting to order food from a huge menu hung on the wall above a take out window.  Hmmm…. so this is the ‘restaurant’.  The sign on the stairs going up said 21 & over only.  We went to see what it was all about – that must be where we can get the $3 claws?  My best description is that it is an open air tiki bar with a raw bar.  You could order drinks, claws, clams, muscles, shrimp, or smoked fish spread & crackers.  That was it – the extent of the menu upstairs.  So we ordered two drinks, 6 claws, and some fish spread.  The claws come pre-cracked.  I watched the guy put them into a vice kind of thing that was attached to the counter.   Ohh they were good!  But since we didn’t fill up any space in our bellies with unnecessary stuff like salad or French fries, we ordered another 6 claws and another fish spread, and that was our dinner.

So Good!  That pretty much filled us up, and we headed back to the boat.  We have good wi-fi, but no TV reception here, so we fiddled around on our computers for a little while, then hit the hay.  Tomorrow brings some windy weather, but we’re planning to stay put here for a week anyway.  Maybe we’ll do some boat cleaning.  Or not. 😉
