15&16Mar19: Local flavor

Friday:  The wind was still blowing pretty good for most of the day today.  We did a little more cleaning, then not much of anything.  Sit by the pool, get in the pool, read a book, drink a drink, put on more sunscreen.  Rough life.  We tried the Overseas Pub & Grill for dinner, since it was just a short walk out to the main drag.  They had live music which I thought would be fun.  We could hear the music before we even left our resort, and soon found that they were playing outside in the back, where there was a bar and picnic tables.  We decided to go inside for dinner since it was so loud.

I had fish & chips which were great!  I guess I’m a salt water fish person, because I never found any fish & chips that I liked up in the Great Lakes.  We had dinner early, so when we got back to the boat, the sun had not set yet.  😁. We visited with the couple from Catalyst, a PDQ power cat, and watched the sun set.

Another couple and I swear we saw green on the very last edge of the sun as it dipped below the horizon.  It didn’t ‘flash’, so I don’t know that it was an official ‘green flash’ – but it was lime green!

We retired to the inside of our floating abode and watched a couple more episodes of ‘Departures’ on Netflix.  Wow – the country of Jordan looks amazing, particularly the ancient city of Petra.  Way cool!

Saturday:  The wind finally calmed down today, and it was just beautiful.  We didn’t have anything planned today, so we just enjoyed the pool and the resort life.  I captured a couple of pictures of resort wildlife.  These geckos are different than the ones we have at home in Sarasota.  These guys curl up their tail when they run.

And we don’t have anybody this big around our house!  He liked to hang out on a palm frond up above everybody.  Look at how long his tail is!

It was pretty quiet around here today, so Kenny decided to keep Scot the bartender company.  Ooooh baby, does he make a good margarita!  Danger, Danger Will Robinson!   He told us that there would be a good band playing at The Hurricane Bar tonight, and that they have good pizza. We decided to go check it out.  It was about 3/4 mile walk from our boat.  And it is nothing special to look at.  😉

The bar is right at the Blackfin Resort & Marina where our friends on Antonia are.  We figured we would stop by and say hello to them, then go for pizza.  Mark & Lezlie only had a little bit of time before their dinner plans, so they invited us in for a drink.  Oh my.  Texans do everything BIG!  Lezlie offered Kenny some bourbon, and so of course, he accepted.  Holy schmoley she pours a drink!  He was pretty much on his lips when we left their boat to go have pizza, and he hadn’t even finished it, so she gave him a to-go-cup and called it his door prize.  Ha!  They are so fun!  Here is the sunset from their location – beautimous!

We ordered pizza, but discovered that the band wouldn’t start playing until 9:00.  Really?  It was only 7:00.  We weren’t going to make it that long!  So we enjoyed our pizza, said ‘Hey’ to Scot while he was playing pool, and we took our wobbly walk back to our boat.  It is nice that there are sidewalks in this area.  The last time we were in Marathon three years ago, down by the Marathon Marina there weren’t any along Hwy 1 – and this is a very busy road!
